We are very pleased to offer a very fine example or the iconic Volkswagen Golf with the GL trim level. Fitted with the 1600cc engine with the 5-door body shell and manual gearbox with the “E” option, which back in the day meant economy giving it a 5-speed gearbox in essence. This car was supplied new by Smithfield Garage Ltd in Birmingham on 18/4/1984 to a Mr Taylor of Walthamstow, London, who kept the car for a long time. It has only had 3 owners in 39 years, which is quite nice for a car to have a very low ownership. The car is finished in metallic grey with the factory standard cloth striped interior which is in remarkable condition, as is the rest of the car, other than a crack in the windscreen (as mentioned on the MOT history). The current MOT is valid until April 2024.

The service history is equally impressive with the original service book complete with 19 stamps and a lot of invoices and receipts detailing works carried out over the years. It also has its original service pack with the owners’ manuals and instruction books still in the blue Volkswagen folder, lovely. The car appears to be in original factory specification, even down to the period Blaupunkt Melbourne radio cassette and, as already mentioned, the very nice interior, correct wheel trims and badging.

We all know how strong the VW scene is now and a car like this would be made very welcome at any VW event, because of what it is and how nice it is. It’s not often that we see a Golf as nice as this, but we are pleased we have.
